Before Forester Pass was built, the southbound John Muir trail crossed the Sierra crest at Junction Pass and then re-crossed over Shepherd Pass. The trail over Junction Pass is long since abandoned but a great deal of it is still very usable. To reach Junction Pass from the north take the Center Basin trail to the large Golden Bear Lake. Passing this lake the trail climbs the ridge separating Center Basin from the headwaters of Bubbs Creek. This ridge is in the center foreground of the picture. In the background is the glaciated valley containing Bubbs Creek. The picture was taken from Junction pass.
