Ice sheet at top of King Col

This picture was taken in August 2010. The Mt. Pinchot quadrangle guide has a copyright date of 1974. I can only imagine how far down the chute the ice sheet extended prior to 1974. Did the author (John W. Robinson) ever descend the col?
